Trim and Molding Care
Before we get started please refer to the tools required for trim and molding care for product suggestions.
Newer car models, especially pick ups and crossover vehicles like the Nissan Navarra and the Volvo XC90 have more plastic or rubber trim on them. It is important that you properly maintain these trim pieces or it will turn gray, significantly lowering the resale value of your vehicle.
Trim and Molding Care
Maintenance and Restoration
1. Washing – This step will remove most of the dirt and grime lodged on the trim. You can use a soft bristled brush but a wash mitt can do the job for this. Don’t use brushes with stiff bristles, you can scratch the trim and molding with this.
2. Remove Old Dressing – If you have previously applied dressing, then do this step. You can use an all purpose cleaner, or a good car shampoo to do this.
3. Apply Protectant – After cleaning and drying your vehicle, protect the trim pieces with a good quality protectant. Use a microfiber applicator pad to apply even and thin coats. This gives a layer of protection against harmful UV Rays, not only it gives protection but it restores the rich black color of rubber or vinyl trim.
If the black trim on your vehicle has faded, apply a good quality trim restorer that will bring back the black color of the trim.
